The Era of the Destruction

The Second Era is a forgotten time of strife and war. Very few creatures have any memory of The Destruction. Namely Dragons and some forms of undead, as well as many of the older demons and devils. Any information available on this time has been passed by these creatures, or through the Ancients in the time following the Emptiness, where the Ancients allowed very few answers to the going ons of the few hundred years prior to. Little information is known however. Only a few creatures were created early on in this era, those being new races such as gnomes, halflings, tabaxi and others to bolster the numbers of the other races, who’s moral and numbers had started to deplete.

During the 1303 years, the destruction era was a time of absolute chaos. As the era began, the celestials rained down from the heavens and intercepted an ongoing conflict between the demons and devils. This however, due to the actions of Calcifer and the Betrayers, who come to be known as the Betrayer Four, was not the ambush the celestials had hoped for. Instead a large contingency of awaiting demons entered the fray at the same time. This initial conflict was to be the end of the demon-devil wars, however, was just the beginning of an even larger war. These wars would last for hundreds of years and would scar the landscape insurmountably.

Similarly, there was strife brewing within the Pantheon. All of these devils and demons that have been scarring the landscape were the creations of two of the gods, the brothers Soreas and Youmoi. Due to the gods’ decisions to segregate and separate the creations of these two from the others, there was bitterness evolving within the brothers. As the war waged, arguments arose within the pantheon. This dissatisfaction would continue to evolve and develop as the wars waged on.

For hundreds of years there was strife taking place in both the heavens and the prime material plane. Wars would be fought, with the demons on one side backed by the Betrayer Four, and the devils, celestials and humanoid races on the other side. Many lives would be lost, many heroes created, and many heroes forgotten. All the while, the demon Palator kept his distance, being the only member of the third party, and only taking place in fighting when groups would venture to close to his home. It wasn’t until 1841 when what became known as The Breakthrough would happen.

Through the careful war strategies of the great celestial angel, Al’Coran, a plan was orchestrated. This plan included a multitude of contingencies for every situation. Multiple fall back point, abushes and flanks were incorporated into a nine month offensive. Over the final year of the war, the demons numbers began to wane and the defensive line was being lost. In the late 1842, the leaders of the demons and the Betrayer Four and their followers would surrender. For their defiance, any demon and any creature that had gone against the celestials would have a symbol carves into their upper arm. This would identify these renegades as The Carved. This symbol could not be scratched out or hidden in any way as it would always appear on the uppermost layers of clothing and armor.

These Carved would be marched away and sent to their original destination, Centorium, all of them now seen as brigands and evil creatures to almost all of those in existence. The devils, for their cooperation, would be allowed to live uncarved and within their own, separate plane of existence, which would become known as the Nine Hells.

The only exception to this would be a single demon. The demon named Palator and what he stood for became known within the circles of demons, angels and devils. So much so, that even Al’Coran had heard these stories and reported them to his patron, Koloki the Light. It was her that had actually requested that Al’Coran and his strongest soldiers march back into Centorium and retrieve this Palator. He would be retrieved and put under the watch and tutelage of Koloki and Al’Coran. An uncommon and strange, but strong, friendship would form between Palator and Al’Coran, as they were two sides of the same coin.

The Marching however, was not what caused the end of the era. Instead, as the strifes and struggles on the prime material plane are settling, the divine are in an uproar, unbeknownst to the rest of creation. In the pantheon, the unrest between the brothers and the rest of the gods was reaching a tipping point. After the demons had been segregated and locked away in Centorium and behind the Shroud, the magic barrier between Yendra and Centorium, and the devils had gone away on their own volition, Youmoi and Soreas were furious. Their creations were the ones pushed away, and their creations were the strongest. They believed that was the natural course and were angry their voices weren’t heard. As such, a coup was put into action by the brothers. Within the heaven, the two quietly assassinated Dendro the Watcher, the guardian of the gods. The expiring life force of The Watcher was immediately noticed by the other gods, and Youmoi and Soreas were missing. However, they were quickly found, fleeing into Yendra.

The Death of Youmoi would be the tipping point of the era. It was in 1847 that Youmoi and Soreas descended upon Yendra, with Soma, Konochi and Koloki following close behind. For three days a massive battle was fought, spanning across the globe, over oceans and continents, as the five clashed. During the twilight hours of a late summer day on the eastern coast of Nemir, the final blow would be dealt by Konochi the Blade, felling Youmoi. His body would plummet under the oceans as Konochi drove her holy blade into him and watched him perish under the waters. Following this, Soreas would leave the prime material plane and flee into the astral sea, still not seen in present day Yendra. This event however, would cause the gods to immediately withdraw from the prime material plane, create a weave or gateway between Yendra and the heavens, and disconnect themselves from the world, causing the third era to begin; The Emptiness.
